Jacobs School of Engineering – Undergraduate Student Project 2014
MRI Positioning System
For their Spring 2014 project we challenged a team of senior undergraduate engineering students from the Jacobs School of Engineering to create an accurate, automatic sample positioning system for our pre-clinical MRI 7T scanner.
During a three month period, the student team designed, built and tested a sample positioning system. The system included a stepper motor driven, rail mounted platform to which various sample holders can be mounted, interface electronics, a user friendly GUI and fiber optic links for noise isolation.
At the testing stage, the accuracy and precision of the system exceeded the design criteria.
